Your county and state Democratic parties should be a natural ally in organizing LGBT and allied Democrats. Working with these parties grows the visiblity of the LGBT community within our party, and helps secure real benefits for our families.
Strengthening Party Platforms
Over the past two years, National Stonewall Democrats and our local chapters have worked with local and state Democratic parties to increase LGBT visibility within their party platforms. Thanks to the work of our members, the Democratic party platforms of California, Iowa, Massachusetts, New York State and Washington State now call for marriage equality.
Almost every state Democratic party platform addresses issues of specific concern to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. Your work can help strenghten this existing language, while addressing additional issues through new platform planks.

National Stonewall Democrats recently partnered with the National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force to develop model platform language for LGBT Democrats to use in addressing LGBT issues through their local and state parties. This resource will help you advocate for inclusive party planks within your local and state Democratic platforms.
