Dear all,
We are pleased to announce that the National Stonewall Democrats have joined African American lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender leaders to strengthen their efforts to address the legislative concerns of LGBT citizens with the formation of a Black Caucus.
Understanding the role that LGBT people of color continue to play in the fight for equal rights and representation, we believe that a Black Caucus, speaking with a single voice, will provide political influence with Black elected officials, visibility for Black LGBT persons, and encourage more Black LGBT Democrats to get involved at both the local and national levels of the NSD.
The Black Caucus also looks forward to providing much needed input and information on Black and Black LGBT specific issues to the NSD going into the upcoming election cycle.
The goals and mission of the National Stonewall Democrats Black Caucus are as follows:
To promote the public welfare through legislation designed to meet the needs of millions of neglected citizens with a specific focus on Black LGBT communities.
To increase the number of active Black LGBT Democrats currently involved with the NSD at both the local and national level.
To provide the NSD with information and input on legislative issues as it relates to Black communities.
To provide political influence with Black elected officials through the NSD.
To foster and grow relationships with Black LGBT specific political action groups and Black civil rights groups.
We would like to thank Eric Stern for the invitation to create this much-needed caucus and for his leadership within the NSD. Over the next few months, we will be reaching out to others to join both the NSD and the Black Caucus.
