Stonewall & DNC Join for Neighbor-to-Neighbor Organizing Day
(Wednesday, April 12, 2006)
Washington, DC - The National Stonewall Democrats Federal PAC announced today that it will join the Democratic National Committee in the DNC's National "Neighbor-to-Neighbor Organizing Day" on Saturday, April 29, 2006.
The National Organizing Day events are part of a nationwide effort by Democrats across the country to reach out to their neighbors to talk about the Democratic Party's bold vision for America based on honest leadership and real security. As part of that effort, local Stonewall volunteers will join Democrats in going door-to-door in their communities to organize and mobilize volunteers and voters.
"National Organizing Day is an important and unprecedented step to start earlier than ever to organize, mobilize, and energize our grassroots supporters and volunteers as we prepare for Democratic victories in November," said DNC Chairman Howard Dean. "Election by election, state by state, precinct by precinct, community by community, door by door, vote by vote, Democrats are going to take this country back for the people who built it. I am delighted that the National Stonewall Democrats Federal PAC will be joining us to help make National Organizing Day a success in every American community, including the LGBT community."
The events on April 29th are an important next step in the DNC's State Partnership Project to help turn the vision of a permanent Democratic majority into a reality. The April event is the first of three national organizing drives that are a key part of building strong Election Day teams for 2006 and beyond. Democrats are working in their communities to organize and mobilize volunteers and voters.
"Participating in National Organizing Day events in communities across the country is an ideal way for Stonewall chapters and members to participate in the Democratic Party's effort to organize for victory all over the country," said Stonewall Interim Executive Director Jo Wyrick. "By making a small effort in our hometowns on April 29, we can further a national effort that will deliver a Democratic victory in November, and substantive change that will follow Election Day."
In addition to Organizing Day events being planned by state Democratic parties, the DNC has created online tools that allow volunteers to create their own canvassing events, invite their neighbors, and download tips, resources and door-hangers. The list of events, images of the door-hanger and resource materials are available at: democrats.org/50statecanvass.
Created by Chairman Dean in 2005, the State Partnership Project was established to foster a stronger relationship with, and bolster the operations of, all Democratic State Parties. The DNC is committed to strengthening the State Party infrastructure to elect Democrats at all levels of government. Through this coordinated approach, a bolstered grassroots field organization will successfully elect Democrats at all levels - from the precinct to the White House. To date, more than 175 DNC-funded State Partnership Project staff have been hired locally and trained at the National Headquarters. These organizers make a 4-year commitment to work with the state party to build Democratic organizations in every single precinct in their states.
Last November, the DNC held over a thousand national organizing kick-off events highlighting the 50-state strategy of strengthening organizations locally a year in advance of the upcoming elections.
