What an exciting year since we last gathered for Stonewall Democrats Capitol Champions in our nation's capital.  We scored historic victories across the country at the ballot box this past year as a result of the countless hours volunteered and generous financial support contributed by visionary LGBT and allied Democratic leaders like you.  

Please join us as we continue this celebration of change and commemorate another historic occasion, the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, at this year's annual Capitol Champions celebration.

Capitol Champions is the signature event of Stonewall Democrats and our community's opportunity to recognize a select few who have made significant contributions to the struggle for full equality.  Hosted by congressional members, past events have included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, presidential candidates, and key congressional committee chairs.  Each year our sponsors are personally thanked from the podium by the congressional host members, as well as board and staff members of Stonewall Democrats.

Our honorees this year's Capitol Champions Celebration include:

Rep. Jan Schakowsky has been a stalwart on LGBT and progressive issues.  Never running away from a fight, Rep. Schakowsky supports our community and is leading the way for other pro-equality Democrats to vote with our community.

Steve Hildebrand brought our community to new levels of access and insight in his role as Deputy Director on the Obama campaign.  After helping to set electoral records, Steve has now started an independent consulting firm.

Iowa Democrats and Marriage Advocates stunned the nation not only with the Iowa Supreme Court's reasoned and thoughtful court decision, but also the Democratic leadership's unwavering support for the decision and our community.
