About Stonewall Democrats

With close to 90 affiliates, National Stonewall Democrats is the organization for LGBT and allied Democrats. Stonewall Democrats works to elect pro-equality Democrats to public office and hold them accountable to advance the pro-equality policies and legislation important to LGBT Americans.

 

Internship

National Stonewall Democrats (NSD) is seeking an unpaid communications intern to work roughly 40 hours per week for the Spring or Summer semester in our Washington, DC office.  The communications intern will help facilitate messaging, build media contacts, network, and research in multiple arenas.

Duties include:

 

Compiling and organizing daily news clips, fact checking releases, op-eds, studies, and reports

Copy-editing

Updating press and media contact lists

Assisting with the organization’s viral media and social networking operations

Conducting research and compiling statistics for editorial and web materials

Occasionally drafting statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, and press releases

Laying-out website and press materials

Assisting the media team with daily operations

General office work

 

Qualifications include:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Strong internet skills and intuition

Excellent verbal and writing skills

Ability to be a team player and to work in a fast-paced environment

Flexibility and dedication

Interest in LGBT policy and democratic principles

Strong knowledge of grassroots organizing

Experience with campaign work

Intellectual curiosity

 

Preferred:

Experience working with the press

Experience working with the blogosphere,

Knowledge of WordPress

Knowledge of HTML (PHP, CSS, and Javascript is an added bonus)

Knowledge of social-networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

Graphic design sensibility

Video editing

 

Internship applications are currently being accepted for the following time periods:

 

Spring Term 2011: Late- January / Early- February through Mid-May

(start and end dates are flexible)


Summer Term 2011:  May through Mid-August

(start and end dates are flexible)
