A 21-year-old college student has come out as the first openly gay elected official in South Carolina.

Nick Shalosky, a political science major at the College of Charleston, discussed his being gay on the national stage for the first time this week after winning a seat last year on the Charleston County District Constituent School Board.

Leaders from Stonewall Democrats chapters across Florida met this past weekend in Fort Myers for the Florida LGBT Democratic Caucus Winter Meeting.  The caucus is one of the largest Democratic organizations in Florida, and is credited with helping to build the momentum for the Democratic wave in the state.

Cleve Jones Twice Recognized During Oscars

Stonewall Democrat Cleve Jones was twice thanked from the podium during Oscar speeches on Sunday night.  Jones, portrayed by Emile Hirsch in the movie Milk, was onhand for the awards ceremony that awarded two Acadamy Awards to individuals associated with the film.
