A group called Stonewall Democrats is narrowing down which candidates to support in this year's election. The group identifies itself as a network of gay and lesbian Democratic activists.
Three of the 30 candidates to make the cut (10 will make the final cut for endorsements) are from Florida.
Here are their bios. Anyone interested in voicing which candidates would be best for the gay and lesbian community can do so on this website.
Kendrick Meek is running to represent the state of Florida in the U.S. Senate. He is currently serving as U.S. Representative from Florida’s 17th Congressional District, where his priorities have included affordable housing, job creation, and education. In Congress, Representative Meek is a Cosponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2009, which would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
Alan Grayson is currently serving his first term as U.S. Representative from Florida’s 8th Congressional District. Prior to his election, he worked as an attorney in the field of government contracts law and represented whistleblowers who witnessed and exposed fraud against the Government. In Congress, Representative Grayson is a Cosponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2009, which would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
Scott Galvin is running to represent Florida’s 17th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to entering this race, he served on the North Miami City Council, where his priorities have included education and AIDS healthcare. If elected, he would be one of a few openly LGBT Members of Congress.
