Take Action: Help Nominate A Strong HHS Secretary

Most candidates President Obama is reportedly considering as his nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services are progressive leaders who will keep in mind the LGBT community's health-related needs, including respect for our families and inclusive data collection.  However, at least one of the candidates rumored to be in the running has been less than helpful to our community, so we need your help. Please sign our petition urging President Obama to make sure an equality-minded progressive is in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services. This information will be shared with the White House.

Take Action: Secure Same-Sex Civil Unions in Hawaii

Support Civil Unions in Hawaii

Hawaii, the state that passed the country's very first "defense of marriage" constitutional amendment over 10 years ago, may be on its way to becoming the fifth state to legalize same-sex civil unions.

This legislation has already passed the state House, but currently its stuck in state Senate Judiciary Committee with members tied 3-3 on whether or not to pass the legislation up for a vote before the full Senate.

Fortunately, according to the AP, "Democratic Senate leaders have said that if the panel became deadlocked, they would yank the measure from its committee and force a vote before the full Senate" and they have the votes to pass it.

But to make that happen, we need to act quickly.

Will you sign our petition, below, urging Democratic Hawaiian state Senate leaders to push the civil union legislation out of committee and up for a vote in front of the full Senate?

Hold Our Democrats Accountable - Say "Thank You"!

I pledge to take two minutes to thank Democrats in Iowa for supporting the freedom to marry AND I pledge to take two minutes to thanks Democrats in Vermont for enacting marriage legislation.

Thank you, Congressman Patrick Murphy

On July 8, Congressman Patrick Murphy took an important step when he became the official lead sponsor for H.R. 1283, the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, the Congressional effort to overturn the policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

As the first Iraq war veteran elected to Congress, Congressman Murphy has taken a leadership role on issues of national security. His decision to step up and carry forward the legislative repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is encouraging.

Sign our message thanking Congressman Murphy, and ask your pro-equality friends and family members to do the same.

When our Democratic leaders stand up for equality, they need to feel our support. Join Stonewall Democrats in supporting Patrick Murphy's bold leadership.

Hold Democrats Accountable

ac·count·abil·i·ty: an obligation or willingness to follow through on one's commitments; to accept responsibility and account for one's actions

With a Democratic President, a filibuster-proof Democratic majority in the Senate and a solid majority in the House, we have more pro-equality allies in Washington than ever before.

Now it's time to hold them accountable to live up to their promises.

Will you help us ensure our Democratic leadership takes meaningful action to advance pro-equality legislation that was promised to Americans?

Stonewall Democrats and our network of more than 120 chapters across the country are doing everything we can to support those Democrats who stand for change we believe in, but we also need to stand up to those Democrats who cannot find the courage to speak out in support of basic fairness for LGBT Americans and our shared progressive values.

Sign our petition demanding action from our leaders in Washington:

Demand LGBT-inclusive Health Care Reform

The American people have made it clear that health insurance reform is a national priority.

President Obama and our Democratic Party leadership are taking bold action to pass reform. All five Congressional committees with jurisdiction have now delivered bills that vary in scope and focus.

The end result of this process is of great importance to all Americans, but particularly those of us in the LGBT community, who are more likely to be uninsured or under-insured due to employment discrimination and lack of relationship recognition.

Please sign this petition to our party leaders - Speaker Pelosi, DCCC Chair Rep. Van Hollen, Sen. Reid and DSCC Chair Sen. Menendez - demanding comprehensive and LGBT-inclusive health care reform.
