National Stonewall Democrats is proud to endorse Rep. Barney Frank in his re-election bid to Massachusetts’s 4th Congressional District.

“Barney, the ranking member among Congress’ out electeds, chair of the Equality Caucus and chairman of the Financial Services Committee, has been a hard-working representative for his District,” said Michael Mitchell, National Stonewall Democrats executive director. “He is an incredibly strong fighter for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, including being the lead sponsor on a fully-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which now has a record number of sponsors.”
“Barney deserves to be reelected so he can continue to fight to get America out of the mess the Republicans handed us and to fight for full equality for the LGBT community.”

Rep. Frank’s opponent Sean Bielat has been endorsed by gay conservative group GOProud, even though Bielat does not support the repeal of DADT or marriage equality, in what Mitchell called a “blatant and misguided cry for attention.”

“It’s mind-boggling for a gay-identified organization, even if it is conservative, to selectively come out against one of only three out elected Members of Congress, and an elected official who is a warrior for equality at that. I find it hard to believe that promises from the GOP of a grand, new economy built on the disastrous, failed policies that got us into this financial mess in the first place would trump the reality of a man who has been doing in a short amount of time a good job at untangling the financial mess Bush/Cheney handed us.”

Steve Iananccone, Co-President of Bay State Stonewall Democrats, adds, “In the race for Massachusetts’ 4th District, the Republicans are once again trying to cast the blame for the Bush Recession onto the Democrats in an attempt to convince the electorate that the current economic problem is not the fault of failed Republican initiatives such as the Bush tax cuts and the hidden deficit caused by excluding the cost of the Iraq War from the federal budget.”

“Barney’s fights hard for his constituents and for LGBT community and we’ll be working hard to remind voters that the right choice is to reelect Barney Frank.”
