Guest Blogger: One Nation Working Together Organizer Alex Kapelman

On Saturday, October 2, tens of thousands of people and over 300 progressive organizations will descend on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the One Nation Working Together March. National Stonewall Democrats has endorsed the march and sits on the LGBT Table of the steering committee. Coming from a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and orientations, we are determined to build a more united country with good jobs, equal justice, and quality public education for all.

I'm absolutely ecstatic to be an organizer for Stonewall's part in the march. I'm a staunch supporter and defender of LGBT rights and the march's central message deeply resonates with me. Yet I feel that the most important aspect of One Nation Working Together is the movement's recognition of the interconnectedness of progressive issues. One Nation Working Together seeks to unite all progressive organizations, activists, and supporters to win our battles in collaboration. Progressives have been trotting forward with blinders on for too long, and as a result could only look ahead towards our challenges, rather than see our allies with us by our side. We can't keep ignoring the potential for progressive empowerment that can only be achieved through collective action.

We can tackle some of the most important issues of our time, but only if we take action right now as One Nation. Can you come to Washington on Oct 2? Can you participate in local events across the country? Can you spread the word about the movement?

We know from history that the LGBT community can work together to overcome seemingly insurmountable crises. It's time to come together as progressives and advance the issues that affect us all. On Saturday, October 2 in Washington, D.C., I invite you to join us as One Nation Working Together.
