Dear Congressman Murphy,

We, the undersigned, share your view that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is dangerous legislation that threatens our national security and is anathema to our country’s founding promises of freedom and equality.

During the 2008 Presidential campaign, we were encouraged to hear then-candidate Barack Obama pledge to sign any repeal of the law that Congress put before him.

We appreciate your decision to quarterback the repeal legislation, not just because we have confidence in your ability to shepherd the legislation through Congress, but because you have such a strong understanding of the need for repeal as you demonstrated on the July 7, 2009 episode of The Rachel Maddow Show.

Therefore, we want to express our strong appreciation to you and the other pro-equality Democrats who are leading the charge to bring equality to our military.

Thank you, and we’re standing with you.

Sincerely,
