Hillsborough Overdue Say Librarians

librarian.jpg

Florida librarians are angry and ready for action. I'm pretty sure I've seen a Cinemax Afterdark movie along those lines.

The Florida Library Association has passed a resolution that the association will not hold conferences or meetings until Hillsborough County repeals its anti-gay policy barring recognition of gay events and pride. The policy was authored by County Commissioner Rhonda Storms, perhaps out of vindication for bearing a name that should be worn by a drag queen. The city of Tampa, the county seat, has already distanced itself from the actions of the county.

The librarians hope that their move will spearhead economic pressure that will force the county to change. Additionally, Sardis Mini Systems, a Mississippi-based company has canceled plans for a 2,000 person convention that would have spent about $1 million in Tampa.
